£9K grant for fitness group

An Amber Valley group has received a Big Lottery Fund grant (BIG) of £9,950 to help people lose weight and get fit.

Amber Valley Sport and Leisure Development Forum will use the funding to establish activity groups and host a roadshow event for the community.

A spokesperson said: “This will enable the beneficiaries to improve their health and fitness and reduce obesity.”

The organisation is one of 46 community projects across the East Midlands each sharing grants totalling £402,109 just before Christmas from BIG’s most popular grants scheme – Awards For All – which gives small grants of up to £10,000 to projects that can make a big difference to people’s lives.

Mick McGrath, Big Lottery Fund Head of East Midlands region, said: “All these projects receiving grants will support people to make their communities stronger and help people most in need.

“Organisations throughout England with an income of £30,000 or less now have the opportunity to apply for repeat and ongoing activities under Awards for All until the end of March 2013.

“Through this, BIG aims to respond to the many pressures small organisations face with cuts to funding and rising running costs. For more information, visit www.awardsforall.org.uk.”
