Council Tax freeze
Derbyshire County Council has frozen its share of council tax for a third year running for the first time ever.
Members of the council’s cabinet set the authority’s annual budget for 2013/14 at £533m – including budget reduction targets of £27m.
The Conservative-controlled council says the savings are on top of £70m of savings and 1,600 job losses in the last three years – most of which, they add, “have been through early retirement, voluntary redundancy, and vacancy control.”
And the authority’s five year plan has been updated to show that further reductions of £100m are required over the next four years.
Councillor Lewer added: “The squeeze on public spending to reduce the national debt means tough choices have to be made. We’ve already saved £70m and will save a further £27m over the coming year.”
