Deadline for young artists

There is still time for budding artists to submit their entries to the Peak District Artisans’ Young Artist of the Year competition.

The competition aims to identify and give recognition to art students aged 16-25 in and around the Peak District who have outstanding talent. There are no restrictions on technique, materials or style. The work can be 2D or 3D, but it must be effectively reproduced in 2D printed form if required.

PDA chair Chris Farrow said: “As a group, we understand how challenging it can be for young artists starting out in this industry and we want to support these people who are serious about art. We’re looking for up and coming artists that can demonstrate their unique insight and creative vision as well as skills with materials.”

Shortlisted candidates will be selected and given the chance to compete in the final.

The competition will see the overall winner receive £200 in cash, with second and third places receiving £100 and £50. All three will have their work exhibited at the award winning annual Great Dome Art Fair in Buxton, July 20 to 21.

The deadline for entries is 6pm, Saturday April 13; the shortlist announcement is May 10 2013. Winners will be announced at the Great Dome Art Fair preview evening, July 19.
