Remembering the fallen for more than 90 years

editorial image

With many pausing to honour our fallen soldiers across the town this week we hark back to an early photograph of people remembering those who perished in World War One.This image, taken in Belper’s Market Place, is thought to have been taken in the late 1910s and comes courtesy of Derbyshire Local Studies Libraries and www.picturethepast.org.uk.

More than 90 years on, people were paying their respects again on Sunday to mark the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month at Central Methodist Church and the Memorial Gardens. We love to receive your Memory Lane pictures and hear your recollections of the ones we feature. Email them to editor@belpernews.co.uk or send them to Belper News, 8 Heanor Road, Ilkeston, DE7 8ER.
