Climbing for a charity cause
Madam, I am writing on behalf of the Meningitis Trust – the UK's longest established meningitis charity - to encourage all of your fit energetic readers/listeners to take part in the Trust's brand new challenge event, the English 3000s – climbing eight notable 3000ft peaks in the Lake District.
The challenge has been set up to raise funds for the Meningitis Trust, as it relies on the generosity of donations from events like this with supporters giving 'their all' to make a difference.
I have been an Ambassador of the Trust since November 2008; knowing firsthand, after my own experience of the disease, how lucky I am to have survived with no after-effects.
From my work with the charity I know just how different this could have been as some families are not so lucky.
Meningitis can kill within hours and leave people with extreme after-effects such as limb loss (where septicaemia has occurred), brain damage and loss of hearing to name just a few.
The challenge will be taking place September 9-12.
There are only 50 spaces available.
Participants will be climbing: Skiddaw – 3054ft, Helvellyn – 3117ft, Helvellyn Lower Man – 3035ft, Broad Crag – 3064ft, Ill Crag - 3068ft, Scafell Pike – 3209ft, Scafell – 3163ft and Symonds Knott – 3146ft. The
total route is 47km and is split over two days.
If you are up to the challenge and feel like doing something amazing for charity this New Year, sign up to this challenge, I can guarantee it will be worth every effort.
I will also be donating a tour of Liverpool FC stadium and museum for four people which all participants are in with a chance of winning.
