Easter is about Christianity

Madam, Looking through the Belper News covering the Easter weekend, I was surprised to see no mention of the Christian festival, which is what Easter is all about.

This used to be a Christian country where the three major festivals – Christmas, Easter and Pentecost, which used to be known as Whitsun – were celebrated.

The latter seems to have disappeared and become a wholly secular holiday to most people, but I did not expect Easter to follow suit.

I can see that your paper could not cover all of the services in all the churches in Holy Week, the week leading up to Easter Day, but one could hardly miss the Walk of Witness, where people from all churches took part in a procession taking in Bridge Street and King Street, as they have done annually on Good Friday for as long as I can remember.

You did mention this in 'Looking Back'.

I suspect that if there had been a procession of Easter bunnies in the same venue it would have had pride of place in your paper.
