Sewage problems in Belper
Madam, I am Belper born and bred and still have relatives on the Chevin. I have been reading with interest about the latest round of proposed housing development off Nailers Way at Whitemoor.
Naturally, the residents are concerned about extra traffic etc etc but one essential factor keeps getting overlooked and that's sewage!
Belper has grown significantly over the last 50 years with the developments on the Laund and Whitemoor areas in particular, yet the small sewage works have had to cope with the extra houses in that time.
Are your readers aware that a convoy of tankers transport human waste from the Chevin Road, Belper side at half hour intervals throughout the day starting at 6.30am to other treatment sites in the area?
This has been going on for ages, to the extent that in this usually quiet backwater heavy vehicles are gradually ruining the road. On top of that, and not helped by the recent bad weather, Chevin Road (Belper end] is in an appalling state.
Should the road ever give way I dread to think what will happen as it would be impossible for these tankers to get access onto the A6 at Chevin Road Milford.
Before any further developments are proposed, perhaps someone should give some thought to the sewage system because if not, Belper is literally going to be in the poo!
Yours sincerely
Trish Stamp
