Saturday 25th October – emphasis on Derby, Darley Abbey and Milford.

10am Walk around Milford with Heather Eaton. Finish 12.30.

10am Duffield to Belper walk with Geoff Errington. Finish 1pm to catch train back. A walk with a steady climb over the Chevin hillside following the ancient Portway along the ridge of the Derwent Valley, eventually dropping down into the historic town of Belper.
10.30am Walk around Darley Abbey with Roy Hartle. Finish 12.30.

11am Joseph Wright Gallery Tour at Derby Museum and Art Gallery. Finish 12 noon.

1.30pm FODOS concert in the Darley Abbey Stables
courtyard. Finish 5pm.

2pm Nature walk around Darley Park. Finish 4pm.

2pm Walk to Dalley Farm from Strutt's North Mill, Belper. Finish 5pm.

2.30pm Joseph Wright's Derby tour from Derby TIC. Finish 4.30pm.


Sunday 26th October – emphasis on Belper and Heage

11.30am Morris dancing at Strutt Arms, Milford.

1pm Belper River Gardens tour – looking at work in progress. Finish 2pm.

1pm Morris dancing at Hurt Arms, Ambergate

2pm Walk around Belper from North Mill, inc Old Baptist Chapel, Cedars, Pyms garden. Finish 4.30pm

2pm Nature walk around Darley Abbey and Nutwood Nature Reserve. Finish 4pm.

2.30pm Morris dancing at Belper Market Place.

Also:

The Cedars at Belper open, with exhibition and refreshments, 10am to 4pm.

Heage Windmill 11am to 4pm (with traditional rope making by Pauline Ambry).

Monday 27th October

Guided evening tour of St John's Chapel, Belper by Mary Smedley.

Tuesday 28th October

DWT volunteer sessions cutting back shrubs and trees along Cromford Canal.

Wednesday 29th October

Ambergate to Cromford talk by Friends of Cromford Canal, Gothic Warehouse, Cromford.

DWT volunteer sessions cutting back shrubs and trees along Cromford Canal.

Thursday 30th October

11am Belper Poetry Trail with lunch break. Finishes 2pm.

7.30pm Cromford and High Peak Railway talk in High Peak Junction wharf shed.

Also: DWT volunteer sessions cutting back shrubs and trees along Cromford Canal.

Friday 31st October

Possible performances from the 1623 Company in Derby Silk Mill, of scenes from Macbeth.

Saturday 1st November


10am Guided tour of Cromford Mill. Finish 11am.

10.30am Slinter walk led by Doreen Buxton. Finish 12.30am

10.30am St Mary's Church and Willersley Castle tour.

10.30am Geoff Errington leads a station to station walk Cromford-Matlock Bath-Matlock (over High Tor) – asking for permission through Willersley Castle grounds via the locked gate onto the riverside footpath to Matlock Bath. This walk is about 4 miles & 2.5 hours.

11am 'Wartime Memories' musical event and exhibition at St Matthew's Church, Darley Abbey. Finish at 3pm.

11.30am Cromford Village Tour. Finish at Masson at 1pm.

2pm Guided tour along canal from Cromford Wharf to Leawood Pumphouse. Finish 3pm.

2pm Rock House walk led Barry Joyce. Finish 3pm.

2.30pm St Mary's Church and Willersley Castle tour.

8pm Derbyshire Songs and Stories with Pete Castle and Keith Kendrick at the Old King's Head, Belper.

Masson Mills 10am to 4pm (steam engine, hand-weaving and bobbins competition),

Rope-making, traditional boat-painting and horse-drawn boat at Cromford Wharf.

Friends of Cromford Canal exhibition in Gothic Warehouse.

Forge lit at High Peak Junction 10am to 4pm.

Leawood Pumphouse operating.

Sunday 2nd November

10am Ambergate Amble from Ambergate to Cromford for Friends of Cromford Canal.

10.30am St Mary's Church and Willersley Castle tour.

11.30am Cromford Village Tour. Finish at Masson at 1pm.

2pm Guided tour along canal from Cromford Wharf to Leawood Pumphouse. Finish 3pm.

2pm 'Wartime Memories' exhibition at St Matthew's Church, Darley Abbey. Finish at 4pm.

Also:

At this stage, most times and activity details have yet to be confirmed, but this is an indication of some of the events planned for the Discovery Days Festival. The complete listings will be available from mid-August.
