Members of the public with an interest in Derbyshire industrial history are being invited to an archaeological dig on the High Peak trail.
The dig, organised by Derbyshire County Council's countryside service, will take place from July 23 to 26.

Archaeological researchers from Sheffield University are supervising the event at the Sheep Pasture incline.

They are hoping to unearth the foundations of the old Cromford Incline engine house, that was knocked down in the 1850s.

The event follows on from a successful dig last year when masonry walls and a possible chimney site were discovered.

Derbyshire County Council's cabinet member for highways and transport, Cllr Chris Jackson said: "This is an exciting opportunity for people to come along and get involved in discovering local history. Derbyshire is rich in industrial heritage and it is wonderful to have the chance to unearth some of it."

The dig will take place 10am to 4pm. The cost is £5 per day. Places are limited to ten per day. Call 01629 823204 to book.
