Derby ukulele duo The Re-entrants have come a long way in one year.
Phil Doleman and Ian Emmerson got together in April, 2007, after a chance meeting on a ukulele players internet forum.

They began posting videos of their rehearsals on YouTube to show other members of the forum how they were doing but more and more people tuned in until one of their videos became one of the most watched music videos on the site.

They quickly developed into a hard-working live act and they have recently been invited to play at the International Ukulele Festival in Germany.

They play an instrument that many people see as a joke, but despite their light-hearted stage presence and unusual choice of material (Britney Spears? Motorhead?) they are deadly serious about their ukes.

"People laugh and have fun at our gigs", says Phil, "but if the joke was simply that we had ukes in our hands it would wear thin very quickly."

The Re-entrants can be seen at The Fishpond (in the ballroom), Matlock Bath on Saturday, April 12. Tickets cost £5.
