PRESENT Company will return to Buxton Opera House on Friday and Saturday to perform Franz Lehar's much-loved operetta The Merry Widow.
The tale of romantic intrigues in a Paris Embassy in the Naughty Nineties (1890s that is) remains one of the most popular operettas ever written.
First performed in Vienna in 1905, The Merry Widow has been turned into films, television features, a full length ballet and even an ice show, while its songs like Vilia, You'll Find Me At Maxim's and The Merry Widow Waltz have become classic favourites.
Present Company is proud to have gathered together a wealth of well-known local talent in order to give the show the impact it deserves.
The show's director is Jean Gemmell, the current Mayor of Amber Valley, who said: "It's a delightful work to do. It's probably the most popular of all operettas, simply because the music is so wonderful and the settings are so lavish.
"The costumes are wonderful; the music marvellous. We're confident we're going have a very merry run at the Opera House."
The performances are nightly at 7.30pm with a Saturday matinee from 2.30pm.
