The Trinidadian writer and performer, who has lived in London for 20 years, was chosen by Decibel as one of the most influential writers in the Black-British canon from the past 50 years.

His work forms part of the New Generation Poets collection at the National Portrait Gallery.

He has published a book of short fiction, Adventures In 3D (2001) and a poetry collection, Suitcase (2004).

As well as reading and performing worldwide, Roger has created a series of one-man shows including The Shadow Boxer, Letter From My Father's Brother and Prohibition, all of which premiered at the British Festival of Visual Theatre.

Sugar Shack is a popular music and poetry club at the venue on Chapel Street, Derby. Audience members inspired by the acts on stage can also sign up to take to the stage themselves.

Anyone attending who thinks they have talent as a poet or a hip hop, r 'n' b or soul artist will be able to perform in one of Sugar Shack's open mic slots with the Trinity Band as their backing group.
