Madam,

Over the last few years it has become increasingly apparent that people have become disenchanted with politics and politicians.
When one reads with disbelief the rules that issue from Brussels and the antics of some of our MPs (snouts in the trough) one can easily understand this sense of despair.

As one of the many local Conservative councillors who feel that politics int
erfere too much in local government I read with sadness and amusement the latest Labour pamphlet which was pushed through the door entitled 'A6 Regeneration'.

It shows a photograph of Ben Hobbs looking wistfully towards the Lion Hotel, with the proclamation that the Tory-run council has neglected the area for far too long.

Last year, the Belper News was kind enough to publish my thoughts for Bridge Street and Chapel Street.

As part of my vision I expressed the desire to make Bridge Street and Chapel Street one-way leading in a southerly direction.

It was felt that with the introduction of single carriageway and parking it would help with both safety and regeneration.

In the whole of that rather long article there was not a single word of criticism of Derbyshire County Council, which has responsibility for roads, as I felt that Belper deserves us all to work together.

However, it seems that old habits die hard, i.e. pinch other people's ideas and rubbish the opposition.

Drag yourselves into the 21st century Labour.

The electorate are tired of this cross-party sniping.

Join with us to provide a brighter, safer and more prosperous future
for Belper.

Cllr Peter Makin
Albert Street
Belper

Today's Vote

Do you think it's right for the police to use unmarked vans to trap speeding motorists?
Yes- it will teach people to curb their speed
No- it's just a ploy to make more money.
