Madam,
It was refreshing to read how passionate some people feel about Remembrance Sunday (letters November 21).

However, the present format for the parade and services has been in place for a number of years and is organised by the Belper Town Council.
So it begs the question, why were these complaints not brought to the attention of the council in previous years?

As for sitting in a warm church for the service, this, of course is true and it was fairly cold at the Cenotaph at 10am for the Act of Remembrance, but then it usually is cold in November.

Perhaps most people are unaware that after the two services and the parade, several members of the Royal British Legion Branch Committee, together with Colin Hawthorn (Standard Bearer) and Adrian Harper (Bugler), paid respect at the Belper graveside of Gunner Stone VCMM by the laying of a wreath, the sounding of the Last Post and observance of the two minute silence.

In conclusion I would like to say that due to the generosity of Belper people the 2007 Poppy Appeal looks like being a record.
