Madam,

On Sunday my family and I went along to the River Gardens to listen to the wonderful music of the John Gill Band.
Despite the rain the turn-out was reasonable and the music superb. My afternoon was ruined not by the rain but by a man with a decibel counter as the reading was being taken to placate the 'Wyver Lane Whinger'.

Why I asked myself?

The River Gar
dens are a beautifully maintained haven for the community to enjoy.

The music provided on a Sunday afternoon allows the people of Belper and visitors to slow down the pace of life and come together.

The young entertain the older people with their antics, while old school friends, neighbours and work colleagues are reunited.
The community spirit is at its best.

Many other towns and villages are envious of our River Gardens.
Then there is the 'Wyver Lane Whinger'.

I have tried so hard to understand the hatred of the music but have failed to find one good reason.

Two hours on a Sunday afternoon for goodness sake.

It is important that we, as a community, don't let this individual take away any more of our Sunday afternoon pleasure.

My aunt remembers going to Belper to listen to the bands over 40 years ago. It would be an outrage if we lost it.

This person is obviously neither community-spirited or a country person with our love of being a close community.

I would suggest he calls it a day, puts up the 'for sale' sign and returns from whence he came, if our community is so abhorrent to him.
