Madam,

RE the Teen Shelter on Whitemoor Recreation Ground, Belper. I am somewhat concerned that the residents of Gregorys Way have not been consulted on this issue.
To me it seems that the proposed resolution has not been thought through.

Firstly, there is already a shelter on the rec' that is seldom used.
Also, if these youths were encouraged to use a new shelter, does this not simply move the problem elsewhere?

I would ask who are these gatherings affecting right now? As I see it only Tesco.

For decades, teenagers have congregated outside the local shop - in my case (over 40 years ago) it was the chip shop.

I would suggest that moving them from outside Tesco will be counter-productive because at least currently they are under CCTV surveillance and therefore have to be reasonably well behaved.

Moving them to an unlit and unobserved area is a bad move!

I have written to Cllrs Martin Tomlinson and Les Dorey to express my feelings on the matter.

I have also posted a comment on your website.

Do you think it's right for the police to use unmarked vans to trap speeding motorists?
Yes- it will teach people to curb their speed
No- it's just a ploy to make more money.
