The crowning of newly ascended monarch, Elizabeth II saw a service held in Belper War Memorial Gardens in 1953.

The coronation of a young Queen symbolised a fresh start as the country tried to rebuild itself after the Second World War and celebrations to mark the 60th anniversary took place across the country on June 2.
