Impromptu art galleries to pop up across town

Organisers of an event which sees homes across Belper turned into impromptu art galleries are appealing for more people to get involved.

Belper Open Houses will be held for the third time this Summer it has been confirmed.

Last year the attraction doubled in size - with 22 terraced, semi and detached houses included in the programme of events - as well as The Black Swan pub in Market Place, Fleet Arts Centre and The Studio in Queen Street.

Now, Viv Scott, who stages the event along with artist Sheila Guyatt has announced the festival will be held from May 25 to May 27 this year and is encouraging people to take part.

She said: “We are delighted to announce the return of the popular event. Back for the third year running, over 25 houses will be showing the work of over 50 artists and makers and this promises to be an interesting weekend.

“We are looking for more people to take part, as artists or makers, or simply to offer their house as a venue for the weekend.

“This year is even better because the Open Houses will be part of the new Belper Arts Festival. The event will be the last weekend of three weeks of art, music, film

and theatre taking place all over the town.”
