Belper bands Turn It Up

SEVERAL young Belper bands will be performing around the county in an annual tour supporting new musicians.

New bands including The Panoramics, from Belper, and Riff, from Bakewell, will preform on the tour.

A number of bands formed by students at Belper School, a number of which have been come from the Turn It Up Rock Schools at the school, will also be showing off their skills in shows at locations ranging from The Winding Wheel, in Chesterfield, to the Derby Assembly Rooms.

The tour will even call in at Belper during it's run. A performance will take place at Belepr Leisure Centre on Saturday, March 6.

The Turn It Up tour is run by Fleet Arts, based on the Fleet in Belper. The DIY project, as it is called, gives young local bands and musicians the chance to showcase their work.

Many of the groups have been attending workshops in the run up to the tour in a bid to hone their writing and performance skills, and help them come up with new material.

Belper singer-songwriter David Gibb, who has recently released his first album, started out on the tour.

This year's concerts, which kick off in Chesterfield on Thursday, March 4, will be filmed, and footage of the gigs will be available on the Turn It Up Myspace page.

The concert at Belper School will begin at 6.30pm and run until 10.15pm. Tickets cost 3 on the door. It is open to all ages.

Concerts will also take place at venues including Kirk Hallam, Buxton, and Matlock.
