New arts link-up at Strutts Centre

A fifties rock n’ roll band will be the first act to visit Belper as part of a new partnership between a Midlands arts organisation and volunteers at Strutts Community Centre.

The Atlantics will play at the venue on October 12 after volunteers joined forces with the not-for- profit Live & Local scheme.

The organisation works with voluntary groups across Warwickshire, Worcestershire, Staffordshire and Derbyshire to provide support for arts activities that “keep people in touch with their communities and enhance their quality of life”.

Organisers at Strutts hoping to stage several similar events in the future if this first venture proves successful.

Volunteer, Janet Galer, said: “Strutts are keen to bring back the spirit of local community and are fortunate to have been included in the Live and Local programme of events which brings professional acts to rural venues starting with the Atlantics Rock and Roll band.

“It’s all about having fun and if you need a few drinks before you get on the dance floor, there’s a bar, so what more can you ask for?

“With guitar, double bass, sax, piano, drums and four vocalists, The Atlantics create a fabulously authentic 1950s sound, a terrific atmosphere and a big beat vibe that keeps people dancing all night.

“You won’t be able to sit still for long so what are you waiting for, get down to Strutts and keep dancing!”

Tickets cost £8 and are available from Strutts Community Centre on Derby Road.
