Reviewer Ed to chart town’s music scene

Online readers of the Belper News can now keep up with the latest goings on in the town’s music scene with the help of our new reviewer.

Freelance writer Edward Sills, 32, is providing content and music news from Belper’s pubs and clubs for belpernews.co.uk

His musings on the movers and shakers in the town will be posted at regular intervals and venue owners are encouraged to get in touch if there are any gigs that they would like him to consider for inclusion.

The post graduate, with a Masters in cultural ctudies, describes himself as a “passionate blogger and music fan”.

Having been brought up in Winterton, Lincolnshire, Ed then lived in Manchester and for the past three years has been a resident of Belper.

He moved to Derbyshire to be closer to family and now works for Derby City Council in the Department of Children and Young People.

Ed said: “I love music and last year I watched scores of live performances, from the seminal reunion of the Stone Roses at Heaton Park to the local –and now hurricane free – festival, Bearded Theory.

“I’ve been co-ordinating with Mike Jones over at Belper Music & Arts to try and get people out and watching some great live music in the town,” he added.

“Currently, I am working on a drama screenplay for television that is a modern day adaptation of The Brothers Karmazov.

“I’m looking forward to reviewing gigs across the town as I know there’s plenty of talent in the town and many great venues putting on live music.”

Ed has already started posting reviews in the local section of our website and among the performances he has already covered are folk singer Anthony John Clarke at the Queen’s Head, in Belper and The Nervous Triggermen when they appeared at the same venue.

If you have any gigs you would like Ed to consider for a review please email your suggestions to editor@belpernews.co.uk
