When the flour millers owned Shottle Hall

editorial image

We travel back in time at Shottle Hall for this week’s Memory Lane. The historic landmark has been host to many wedding receptions, family celebrations and parties throughout its 172-year history.

This picture, dated circa 1920, was taken while the hall was owned by a family called Sowter, who were flour millers from Derby. It is believed that Lady Inglefield is the lady in the large white hat in the centre of the photograph. Picture courtesy of picturethepast.org and Mr B Roberts.

We love to receive your Memory Lane pictures and hear your recollections about the ones we feature. Send them to 8 Heanor Road, Ilkeston, Derbyshire, DE7 8ER; email them to editor@belpernews.co.uk or drop them off at our community postbox at News Corner, King Street, Belper.
