A Cromford artist is celebrating after generous donors backed the plea for cash to save her art studio.

Rachael Pinks faced having to close her community workspace at The Old Lock Up if she couldn’t raise £1,300 by the end of March. However, she has been overwhelmed by the generosity of people who helped her reached the target after pledges from as far afield as France and Nova Scotia.

It means her life drawing classes, children’s workshops and exhibitions can continue.

“It would have been such a terrible shame if we’d had to close the studio, which we would have to have done,” she said. “I just want to say a huge thank you to everyone. It makes you realise there are lots of fantastic people out there.”
