Work to install more than a mile of new water pipes in Hazelwood has been completed five weeks ahead of schedule, Severn Trent has announced.

The water company has invested nearly £300,000 in replacement pipework for the Over Lane area of the village to make sure its customers’ taps and toilets keep working.

Severn Trent’s contract partner, Laing O’Rourke, started the work back in October and it had been scheduled to be completed by the end of January.

John Springett, from Severn Trent, said: “We’re pleased to say that we finished our work in Hazelwood earlier than planned. Good weather conditions and a real focus from the team to get the job done meant we finished in time for Christmas.

“This is great news because we were able to open Over Lane and get everything back to normal for local residents in time for the festive period. We’d like to thank everyone in the local community for their patience and support while we’ve been working in the area.”

He added: “It was important that we did this work because as water pipes get old, they can become weaker, making them prone to leaks and bursts. We wanted to make sure our customers’ water supply is always there when they need it.”
