BELPER will be without a dedicated inspector based in the town from Thursday, July 24, when Inspector Graham Lamin works his last day.
As part of a restructure in Derbyshire Police A division, Inspector Lamin, who has been based in Belper for 18 months, will be moved to Chesterfield.

Belper, along with the rest of Amber Valley, will be covered by former Ripley inspector Richard Smith. He will be based in Ripley.

Inspector Lamin said: "I'm sorry to go. I have enjoyed it a lot; probably too much."

He has given a reassurance that the police's safer neighbourhood teams, led by Sergeant Lee Smith, will remain in place in the town.

Leader of Belper Town Council, John Nelson said Inspector Lamin would be missed.

He explained: "I think Graham has been exceptional to us. I can't praise him enough.

"If Graham was here next year, I'm sure he would have received a town service award with honours."

Councillor Nelson added: "We will be sorry to see him go."
