A COLLECTION of football memorabilia that belonged to a former landlord of a pub in Duffield fetched more than £12,000 at auction.

The lot included a 15ct gold-cased FA Cup winners’ medal and belonged to George Thornewell, a former Derby County, Blackburn Rovers and England player who took over as licensee of the White Hart pub in 1930.

George won the medal as a Blackburn player when they beat Huddersfield Town in the final at Wembley Stadium in 1928.

It sold for £5,400, alongside badges, autographs and international caps.
