A campaign group formed to oppose a Tesco supermarket being built in Belper is asking residents what they want to see built on the huge development site.
No planning application has yet been submitted but Tesco owns a large proportion of the land at Meadows Edge and Derwent Street.

The plan is set to also include building a relief road around the town, other shops and sports facilities.

Last week 150 people attended the Belper Against Tesco's (BATs) third meeting when results of a survey carried out in Matlock, where a new Sainsbury's store has opened, were revealed.

It said many shop owners in Matlock felt their trade had been affected by the new store. Andy Minion, from BATS, said: "The opening of Sainsbury's and the new road has been a disaster for Matlock traders."

The group claims there are similarities between the two schemes because both involve an unsightly part of town, which needed developing and the offer of a relief road by the developers.

A brief for the Meadows Edge area of Belper is being compiled by Amber Valley Borough Council.
