RELATIVES of Belper soldiers who were killed in action after the Second World War are being urged to come forward if they would like to see their relative's name on a new memorial in the town.
Belper Town Council plans to erect a new memorial in the town's Memorial Gardens, in King Street, to mark the contribution of Belper soldiers during conflicts.
Councillors now want to make sure they include the names of all the people who should be remembered in this way.
The decision to erect a new memorial was made last month in response to a campaign by a Belper woman Evelyn Osborne to have her son's name included with other soldiers from the town who have died in conflicts including the Gulf War, Afghanistan and Iraq.
Mrs Osborne's son Martin was a sergeant when he was killed in Bosnia. The new memorial will look similar to the general plaque erected to honour those who have died in conflict since the Second World War.
For more information or to contribute a name contact the town council on 01773 822116.
