A NATURE area in Belper is among the best in the country after receiving a green flag award.
This is the first time Belper Parks, set to benefit from £15,000 worth of improvements, has been recognised as worthy of the award.

Amber Valley Borough Council and the Friends of Belper Parks are celebrating after the national standard for parks and green spaces was awarded.

Borough councillor Jack Brown said: "This is wonderful news for everyone who has been involved in all the recent improvements to both the parks."

Winners are judged welcoming and well-maintained, with community support and involvement.

Paul Todd, application manager for the green flag scheme said: "Congratulations to all the management, staff, and in particular, thousands of volunteers whose hard work and dedication has brought this award of excellence."

Staff from Amber Valley Borough Council will join other winners to collect their flags in Liverpool on Thursday.
