THE dedication of a Belper couple has been recognised through a special community award.
Belper town councillor Mick Potter and his wife Julie were presented with an Excellence in the Community Award by Belper Mayor Norman Bull for their hard work with the Belper Marlins Swimming Club.

The couple, of Lodge Drive, have been involved with the Belper Leisure Centre-based club for more than a decade.

Twleve years ago Mick, who is himself in a wheelchair, set up a section of the group especially for children with a disability.

A spokesman for Belper Marlins said: "They import a sense of fun and humour, and an 'I can do i't attitude."

The award is given out by Derbyshire County Council.
