THE DERBYSHIRE branch of a national charity is marking a milestone next week.
Members of the Motor Neurone Disease (MND) Association will celebrate the 21st anniversary of the branch with a special buffet and presentation.

Chairman, David Broughton, who has been involved with the group since his brother-in-law was diagnosed
with MND in 1992, said:

"We have supported a lot of people during the 21 years and we have raised more than £311,000 for sufferers in the Derbyshire area.

"Preparations are well underway for the celebration and the committee hopes that this special get together will be a light-hearted occasion."

MND is a fatal disease of the nervous system that attacks the nerve cells that send messages from the brain to the muscles so the muscles gradually stop working.

The charity provides care and support to people with MND across the county that enables them to live their lives to the full.

The committee is inviting anyone interested in finding out more to go the event which is being held at Charnos Hall in Ilkeston on Saturday, October 27 at 7.30pm.

The chief executive of the MND Association Kristine Knox and research director Dr Brian Dickie will be joining in the group together with several other supporters.
