MORE than £3,000 was raised towards the church funds at St John the Evangelist Church Fete on Saturday.
The fete, at the Hazelwood church, was opened by Belper mountaineer Nigel Vardy, who stayed for the afternoon and signed copies of his new book.

The day also hosted a vintage car exhibition, with more than 50 cars on show for the 500 visitors throughout the day.

Uncle Michael the Clown was on hand to entertain the children, while the Rolls-Royce Brass Band played on through the afternoon and the Folk Frendzy dance group entertained onlookers.

The church's Reverend Robert Harris said: "It was a superb success.

"The fair has become very popular in the surrounding area. Everybody had a really nice time and the money will go towards our new meeting and refreshment area."
