FOOD lovers are being urged to vote for Belper deli Fresh Basil in awards that support small scale businesses that exhibit pride and passion for their craft.
The local food hero search is being led by Gary Rhodes and 100 food outlets across the country have been nominated.
Producers, suppliers and outlets shortlisted for an award will be featured in a new UKTV food series in November, presented by the celebrity chef.
The traditional deli opened last year and has proved to be a huge hit with townsfolk ever since, selling a huge range of cheeses and providing excellent service.
Sam Jackson from Fresh Basil said: "If we win, the deli will get great publicity and an hours slot on tv.
"I don't know what our chances are, I'm hoping we're quite strong compared to others. We are regionally strong and there is not that much competition in the area because it lacks really good quality food shops.
He added: "It would be great if we got through to the final 11 because they would film here in Belper."
To vote log onto www.uktvfood.co.uk and register to vote. Voting ends August 21. You can also leave feedback for Fresh Basil.

Today's Vote

What do you think of the government's plans to axe free swimming for children and elderly people?
I think it's ridiculous
It's fair enough if it didn't have the uptake they expected.
I don't care. It doesn't affect me.
