Hundreds of people attended a charity evening held in memory of a well-known former Belper mechanic.
Almost £3,000 was raised at the event at the Comrades club in Crich held in memory of Colin Hubbard, former owner of MA & RA Stone garage on Bridge Street who died suddenly from cancer in 2006, aged 64.

Money will go towards Cancer Research UK and Christies Hospital in Manchester – one of the leading cancer centres in Europe.

Wife Kath Hubbard, who organised the event with son Paul and daughter Penny, said they smashed the fundraising target.

She said: "Lots of people saw it in the paper and knew Colin. More than 200 people attended and it went really well. Up to now we have collected £2,900 which is great and there is more coming in.

"I think we'll reach £3,000 which is more than we expected and double our goal."
