A Belper charity has benefited from a funding boost from the former mayor of Amber Valley.
Peter Arnold was mayor of Amber Valley from 2007 -2008 and raised raised £1,456 for his two chosen charities during his year in office.

Cllr Arnold decided to raise money for the Herbert Strutt Charity in Belper and The Edward Bright Appeal, with
the Strutt charity receiving £551.80 and Edward's appeal receiving £904.40.

He said: "The Herbert Strutt Charity does a fantastic job, and it's great to know that the money raised for the charity will be used to help local residents and community groups working directly on behalf of people living in and around Belper. "

The Herbert Strutt Charity was established in 1986 and is administered jointly by Amber Valley Borough Council and Belper Town Council. The charity awards funds for charitable purposes to benefit residents of the area served by Belper Town Council and, amongst other things, supports educational facilities.

The Edward Bright Appeal was set up to secure the future of the eight-year-old from Ripley after he lost his limbs to meningitis.

Cllr Arnold said: "I first met Edward and his family last year when we started raising money for the appeal. His incredible bravery and determination to overcome any obstacles he encounters, and the positive attitude of his family, has been inspiring.

"I wish them all the very best for the future."
