New children's centre set to open

A new children's centre in Belper will provide a range of services for youngsters from babies up to 11 and their families.
Belper Children's Centre on Alder Road, will be officially opened for business on June 3 by Joyce Sanders, chairman of Derbyshire County Council.

The drop-in centre is part of a network of 42 centres being developed across Derbyshire with the aim
of providing family support, advice and information for parents and carers with children aged up to 11.

A county council spokesperson said: "We already have an exciting programme of activities lined up including rhythm and rhyme, a positive parenting course for parents of children aged eight to 13 years old, drop-in sessions for parents and children, and fun and exercise for you and your pre-school children."

The centre has a small team of children's centre workers, a receptionist, centre co-ordinator and child care staff, who will be working with other agencies in the local area to ensure that a wide variety of activities and support services are available for local parents and children.

The centre will work in partnership local housing provider, Amber Valley Housing, do that local residents can use the community room facilities in the centre.

The building was originally a community room for residents on Alder Road. it has been refurbished and extended and residents will still be able to use the community room facilities in the centre.
