School lands £6m for sports development
Students in Duffield are set to benefit from a multi-million pound development at Ecclesbourne School.
After signing a deal with Derby housing company Radleigh Homes, the Wirksworth Road school will hand over two playing fields where 90 homes will be built.
In return it will get £6 million to build a new indoor sports hall and a five-lane heated indoor swimming pool and an upgrade of the netball and tennis courts.
The playing fields will also be replaced with land nextdoor.
The redevelopment of the school comes after years of fundraising to replace the current 1960s outdoor swimming pool.
Headteacher Lesley Underhill, said: "We are very excited that Radleigh is supporting our plans to modernise the school's facilities.
Students and parents have been fundraising for over 40 years to improve the swimming pool alone.
The improvements would benefit both our students and the wider community."
The deal is now subject to planning permission.
