A fund set up in memory of a young cricketer who died almost two years ago has reached £26,000.
The Tom McGonigal Trust Fund was set up after Tom's sudden death from an aneurysm in August, 2006. The aim of the fund is to raise money for under- privileged children.

Tom, 21, of Royston Drive, Belper, was vice-captain of Belper Meadows Cricket Club second team and was keen on helping youngsters achieve their aims in life.

A successful three-day event held in September at Belper Meadows, including a night for young bands to perform, will be held again this year.

His mother, Sue McGonigal, said: "Each year we will build the event up and hopefully it will get better each year."

A website for the fund has also been set up and is in its early stages.

Sue said: "We want to invite charities to come to us for money. The website is a way for us to reach people outside of Derbyshire."

Anyone who knew Tom is also invited to go on the website and write about him.
