Councillor Juliette Blake,Heage & Ambergate,AVBC,
Heage, Derbyshire 05/07/2008 14:59:07
Sorry to give such a boring and practical explanation but these orange lights are a regular sight around this area. They are most probably Chinese Lanterns. The lanterns, referred to as 'Khoon Fay', are sold in Ripley around £3 each and are used by the Chinese to banish evil spirits.
They work like mini hot-air balloons and are completely silent and burn out after about 20 minutes.
The floating orbs appear to just fade away and they look like they are following each other - as they are pushed along by the wind.
So I don't think the martians have landed in Derbyshire just yet!!!
