GOVERNORS at the Ecclesbourne School have voted unanimously to convert to an academy.
The Duffield school will change to academy status as of Tuesday, March 1, this year.
It comes despite some of the school’s teachers earlier striking over the move.
Chairman of governors Keith Wharam, said: “We believe it is the best way to secure the financial resources necessary to support the learning of our students and provide increased job security for our staff. We will continue to be called The Ecclesbourne School and we do not expect any changes for students, staff, parents or prospective students.”
But John Holmes, secretary of Derbyshire NUT, said: “Governors are at risk of ignoring the very people who are crucial to the success of the school. How will goodwill remain within the school if the views of its dedicated, professional teachers are not even deemed worthy of recognition?”
