Accountants’ charity auction

A Ripley firm of chartered accountants sponsored a charity ball hosted by celebrity baker, Paul Hollywood, to celebrate the 45 anniversary of a local autism charity.

The event at Colwick Hall on June 21 is expected to raise over £11,000 for NORSACA and was organised by Mabe Allen LLP.

NORSACA provides services to local children, adults and families affected by autism including a specialist school, day and residential services and training.

At the event, Paul – star of the Great British Bake Off - said: “Autism is a very prevalent condition that affects around 1 per cent of the population in the UK. It is quite likely that the majority of people know someone affected by autism, either directly or indirectly so I am pleased to support the fundraising activities to help NORSACA continue its important work.”

A live auction helped raise enough money on the night for a new minibus, which will be co-funded by the Variety Club of Great Britain, for pupils at the charity’s specialist school, Sutherland House, which is attended by children with autism from across Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire.

David Allen, partner at Mabe Allen LLP, said: “Mabe Allen is delighted to have been able to support such a worthwhile local cause. We will definitely be supporting NORSACA again in the future.”

NORSACA is the regional autism charity which provides support for adults and children with autism and their families. It is hoping to raise £100,000 over the course of 2013 to help fund a number of special projects, including a new minibus for pupils at the charity’s specialist school, Sutherland House, which will enable pupils to access a wider range of community-based activities.

The organisation is a registered charity started on the initiative of a group of parents in 1968 and today is still a parent-led organisation.
