A former Belper woman has celebrated her 100th birthday.
Agnes Gibbins, who lived in the town until 2000, saw in her century on Tuesday, March 29, with her close family at the care home she lives at in Beverley, East Yorkshire.
Her daughter, Rosie Mason, said: “She was delighted to receive a telegram from the Queen, along with many cards from dear friends for which she wishes to express her thanks.”
Agnes went to Strutt’s School before completing nurse training. She married Lawrence, a merchant seaman, and they lived in Ambergate, before moving to Ecclesbourne Avenue, Duffield. They had three sons and a daughter. After Lawrence died in 1986, Agnes moved to sheltered accommodation in Meadow Court, Belper.
