A POPULAR tourist attraction in Heage is holding a open day for potential volunteers.

Heage Windmill will open for its eleventh season on Sunday, April 1.

The day before, on Saturday, March 31, it has extended an open invitation to anyone who would like to become a volunteer at the Chesterfield Road mill.

Alan Gifford, who is a volunteer at the mill, said: “The windmill is operated entirely by volunteers. A wide variety of skills are required, ranging from millers, guides, shop workers and greeters, to general handymen who would help keep the mill and its surrounds in good order.

“We will welcome all who might feel they would like to become associated with the very friendly environment that the mill offers and trained staff will be on hand to explain what is involved.

“Full training will be arranged for all new volunteers.”

The mill re-opens at 11am on April 1.
