BELPER’s MP is urging students in Belper to apply for a place at a summer school at the University of Oxford.
Pauline Latham has written to local schools to encourage students to try and secure one of the 750 places available at the prestigious university’s UNIQ Summer Schools.
It is a programme of week-long residentials, which take place during July and August for year 12 students who are currently studying in UK state schools and colleges.
Mrs Latham said : “I would encourage as many students as possible from Mid-Derbyshire to apply to this programme.
“Such a programme would carry great prestige, and would benefit all university applicants, and would also be very impressive to future employers.”
Of those who attended the summer school in 2010, 40 per cent were made conditional offers by the university..
