A church which was targeted in an arson attack will be able to carry out further repairs, thanks to generosity from the community.

St Edmund’s Church, Allestree, suffered smoke damage to its hall in the arson attack in June.

Now £400 has been raised through a tombola event held at Park Farm Shopping Centre.

Darren Pickering, manager at the centre, said: “As soon as we heard we offered our services in any way to help them move on.”

A 23-year-old man from Allestree will be sentenced for setting fire to the church later this month.
