Mature artists who’ve become firm friends over a six year, part-time University of Derby degree course aim to continue the relationship by setting up their own city studio.

Richard Barwick, Janet Fleming, Joyce Searles, Valerie Bradbury, Jean Chapman and Fiona Whitfield - all from Derbyshire – are collaborating under the group name ‘Symbiosis’ and have applied to take up a joint studio at the University of Derby’s Banks Mill Studios

Richard Barwick, 65, of Nether Heage, who took up the Fine Art degree course after taking early retirement engineering, said: “We decided we’d like to keep things going by hiring a joint space and we are just waiting for one to come free.”
