Bands lining up for a ripping night out

THE first Rip It Up gig of the year is to be staged at PJ's in Ripley on Friday.

On the bill will be four talented acts, The Cold Light Of Day, Soulcracker, Sunrise Over Europe and Paul Yeadon.

After the sudden departure of founding member Richard Warren, The Cold Light of Day have re-grouped and are preparing to record and release their debut album next year.

A band full to the brim with gorgeous melodies and emotive pedal-steel, this should provide a real treat for local audiences.

Soulcracker are a Nottingham rock band who lurk in relative obscurity but are one of the finest live acts out there with their brand of fuzzy but jangly guitar rock.

Hailing from Halesowen in the West Midlands, Sunrise Over Europe are an ambient and experimental five-piece and are bringing something very different to Rip It Up – namely glockenspiels, violins and harmoniums to name but a few.

Their debut album Love And Landscape is out now.

Finally, the acoustic set comes from Paul Yeadon, formerly the frontman of cult indie-rock favourites Bivouac and now found fronting the Wireless Stores. Paul is coming along to play songs from his forthcoming project A Nation of Shopkeepers.

The free gig at the venue on Booth Street starts at 8pm and organisers of Rip It Up are also giving away a limited amount of free CDs featuring some of the bands that have played Rip It Up in the past few months.
