A Belper bed and breakfast has become one of just five industry newcomers nationwide to be given a prestigious award from Michelin.
Chevin Green Farm was presented with the Bib Hotel award as well as being listed in the Michelin Guide 2015.
It joins a select list of hotels and B&Bs to have received the acccolade throughout Great Britain and Ireland.
Judges were impressed by the hotel’s distinctive tea-theme. Owner Sarah Marley,44, is known locally as “Mrs Tea” because of her love of the drink.
She said: “I’m absolutely thrilled. It was a surprise.
“The tea theme has gone down a storm with visitors since we refurbished it three years ago and I love it.
“This is a wonderful accolade and we are delighted. We would like to thank all of our guests for their support and encouragement.”
The farm has been in Sarah’s family since 1929 and after taking it over in 2009 and completing the purchase from her parents last year Sarah set about transforming the decor - with old milk churns and milk bottles used as decor to commemorate the building’s dairy farm roots.
Items of traditional family furniture at the 350-year-old farm have been retained and blended with carefully picked contemporary pieces.
Tea-shaped lampshades hang from the ceiling and guests drink from vintage tea-sets.
Michelin were keen to praise the unusual tea-theme in their recommendation, stating: “The delightful owners have a passion for tea, so you’ll find a great selection, alongside tea-themed artwork, ornaments and furnishings.”
The famous Michelin Guides have been published by the French company Michelin for more than 100 years.
The term normally refers to the Michelin Red Guide, the oldest and best-known European hotel and restaurant reference guide, which awards Michelin stars for excellence to a select few establishments.
Rebecca Burr, editor of the 2015 Michelin Guide Great Britain and Ireland, added: “I really admire businesses like Chevin Green Farm.
“It’s a husband-and-wife team working very hard to deliver great service and accommodation for their guests.
“They have developed an interesting theme around one of their own passions, but the key factors in achieving the Bib Hotel award are good hospitality, good accommodation and good value.”
