Belper Town secured their second successive victory with a 3-0 win over Tividale.

The comfortable win moved the Nailers up to 12th in the table and within five points of the play-offs.

The game went ahead after an early pitch inspection deemed The Marston’s Stadium fit to host this Evo-Stik Division One South fixture.

Aaron Cole opened the scoring on the stroke of half-time when Rob Stevenson set the ball back to the full-back, who took a touch and drilled the ball hard and low into the bottom corner from 25-yards out.

Evan Garnett doubled the Nailers lead just before the hour mark with the pick of the afternoon’s goals.

Stevenson played the ball into him on the edge of the box, he flicked the ball up and emphatically volleyed home left-footed.

Belper captain Eric Graves completed the scoring with a powerful header from a Sam Wood corner in the 83rd minute.

The first half was a frustrating one for the Nailers as youthful Tividale were scrapping for every ball and made life awkward for the home side.

Tividale had the game’s first chance in the 10th minute, when Chris Rabone’s cross was headed out of Danny Haystead path by Jonathan Williams and the ball fell to Desean Martin, but his volley at the back post was blocked.

The Nailers first chance fell to Garnett, when Williams whipped the ball in and Thomas Turner in the Tividale goal dropped it as Ben Watkis challenged him. Garnett hooked the loose ball towards goal but Turner got back up and caught the ball.

Belper dominated the second half and had chances to add to their tally.

Phil Watt had the best chance after he closed down a loose ball on the by-line, but he smashed the ball over.

The win made it back to back victories for the Nailers following up on Monday’s 3-1 away win at Sheffield FC.

Belper travel to Newcastle Town next Saturday (9th) as they look to continue their recent good run of form.

The following Tuesday (12th) the Nailers travel to Glossop North End in the quarter finals of the Derbyshire Senior Cup.
