belper Stroke Club has celebrated its 20th anniversary with a party for members and guests.
Treasurer Brenda Rose said: “It went very well – we were really pleased. We had one of the original members Audrey Robinson who was around for the first meeting in 1991 and Gerald Taylor the first chairman.”
The club was started at Babington Hospital in the town by three speech therapists who realised that social events and outings would be beneficial for stroke victims.
Brenda, who joined the club in 1993, said: “People really enjoy singing at out get-togethers. We have bowling expeditions and outings and we provide transport using the Amber Valley community mini-bus. We would like more members. It’s easy to get excluded if you are on your own.”
The club meets from 2pm to 4pm on alternative Tuesdays at Belper Leisure Centre. For more information call Brenda on 01773 824804.
